A white villa between Quarteira and Vilamoura, eight runners and the first Algarve Marathon. You arrive on Thursday, you run on Sunday morning, you leave on Monday. In between the week is built around the race: the easy runs, the chef, the physio, the transfers. What is left to you is the part that counts.
The Marathon (+half)
First edition, on 6 December 2026. Start and finish are at Marina de Vilamoura, at 08:30, with forty two kilometres along the Algarve coast.
The Algarve Marathon runs its first edition on Sunday 6 December 2026, starting at 08:30 from Marina de Vilamoura, in the municipality of Loulé. Four distances share the day: the marathon, the half, the 10 km and a 5 km solidarity walk. The race patron is Carlos Lopes, Portugal's first Olympic gold in Los Angeles 1984 and marathon world record holder in Rotterdam in 1985 with 2:07:12.
Faro airport is about twenty minutes from the start. The final course, the start times for each distance and the entry fees are published by the organiser over the coming months, and this page is updated as soon as they are out.

Day 01 · Welcome to the Algarve!
You land at Faro and twenty minutes later you are at the house: a white villa between Quarteira and Vilamoura, with palms, a wide lawn and a pool twelve metres long. In the evening we all eat together at the big table, eight people running the same race on Sunday.

Day 02 · The coast in the morning, the Algarve after
In the morning we run easy along the coast to Vilamoura, forty five minutes in two pace groups, with the marina opening up at the end. A long breakfast when we get back and half an hour of mobility in the garden with Katia. The afternoon is free: some stay on the lawn, some go and see the beaches under the cliffs, some do not move from the side of the pool. In the evening we eat outside, under the lamps.

Day 03 · Bib day
Twenty minutes with four strides and the legs are done for the day. We take care of the bibs: while we are at the Marina, back at the house there is the physio, the garden and the sofa. We eat early and go to bed early, because tomorrow we run.

We are out on the course and at the finish. Then back to the house, and the afternoon is the one you have earned.
Included
  • transfer to the start and back

What Makes This Retreat Special
The house sits in a quiet stretch between Quarteira and Vilamoura, with the garden all around it: palms, a wide lawn, a small lake with a bridge, and a pool twelve metres by six. The table outside is laid for ten and the kitchen is built to cook for everyone. The beach is a quarter of an hour on foot, and the Marina de Vilamoura, where the race starts and finishes, is a few minutes by car. The afternoons stay empty on purpose, because that is the part of the week that does the work.

Where the evenings end up
Six rooms, each with its own bathroom and air conditioning. Four of the six king beds split into two singles on request, so nobody shares a bed. Four rooms are on the ground floor and two upstairs, one with a tub and one with a terrace over the garden.

The chef plating
Eight runners, one race, one house. You do not book a spot, you are selected for one: every house is composed on pace, goals and age, in a band between 26 and 38. For a week the marathon is the ordinary thing everyone at the table is talking about.

Moa is in the house all week: the easy run on Friday, the activation on Saturday, the course gone through together and the warm up on race morning. A marathon runner, with the Olympic dream ahead of her. She handles the last week with you, without adding anything to the work you have already done.

FIT CHECK
An honest fit check.
This is for you if...
  • You're over 26
  • You have the Algarve Marathon on your calendar — or you're serious enough to book it
  • You want the days before the race to feel calm, not chaotic
  • You want someone else to handle the logistics, not another thing on your plate
  • You care about performing well and enjoying every moment
  • You don't need the crowd — you need the right eight people
This is not for you if...
  • You just want a cheap flight and a hotel near the start line
  • You're looking for a party trip, not a performance week
  • You'd rather train and travel entirely on your own, no one around
The questions people ask
Everything worth knowing before you leave. If your answer is not here, write to us.
Selection
You apply in a few minutes and pay nothing. A person reads the application, and if the profile fits we call you: twenty minutes on goals, pace and expectations, and for you to ask whatever you want. A room is assigned only after that call. Every house is composed on pace, goals and age.
There is no minimum time. What matters is arriving in December with marathon training behind you, because race week is the taper and not the build. First time marathoners and people chasing a personal best share the same house, and the runs we do together are at easy pace, so the pace never separates anyone.
Eight, and they do not change. It is the number beyond which a group stops getting to know itself. The house has seven rooms, each with its own bathroom. When the eight are assigned, selection for Vilamoura closes.
Applying costs nothing and commits you to nothing. If a room is assigned, the deposit is €300 within 7 days of the answer. The balance of €900 by 5 December 2026, thirty days before arrival.
Sprinta
Sprinta runs villa retreats for marathoners: one house per race, ten runners, and everything around the running already arranged. In the house there are a coach, a sports nutritionist, a trail and yoga guide and a chef, the same people you find in the House Leaders section. The company is Medicaly S.r.l.
The flight is yours to book. On this page there is a Skyscanner link already set to Vilamoura and the dates of the retreat, so you see the prices without searching. Airport transfers are included, whatever time you land and whatever time your flight home leaves.
Until a room is assigned nothing has been charged. After the deposit, if plans change, the €300 stays available as credit on another Sprinta retreat for twelve months, and the room can pass to another runner.
The race
The bib sits outside the €1,200. When a room is assigned we buy it in your name, at cost, and add it to the balance. The organiser raises the price as the race fills: €70 for the first 2,000 entries, €95 up to 5,000, €130 after that, plus €4 of transaction fee. Applying early means the lower band. Entries are personal, and the organiser transfers a bib only for documented illness or injury.
Breakfast is served in the dark, at the hour counted back from the eight o'clock gun. Private transport takes you to Parque da Cidade and the warm up is done together. The house waits when you come back, and the afternoon has nothing in it. In the evening everyone eats together.
The week is built around the marathon on Sunday 6 December. The shorter races are run the same morning, so the retreat is built for the 42.195 metres.
